Celebrating Saint Mary's Researchers

Close to 100 researchers comprising Canada Research Chairs, professors and several senior administrators gathered Friday, October 5th in McNally Auditorium to recognize the important impact of research on campus.

Associate Vice-President Research, and Dean of Graduate Studies, Adam Sarty, called people together from all Faculties, across the university, to acknowledge the contributions of individual researchers who apply for and receive external funding from a variety of sources including the Canada Research Chair program, NSERC, SSHRC, CHIR, and many federal and provincial programs.

Dr. Sarty noted that external funding allows our researchers to hire and support student researchers, post-doctoral students and technicians. The competitive nature of the funding process means our success in this area reflects the high quality of research at Saint Mary’s.

Here are some quick facts from Dr. Sarty’s presentation:

From September 2017 to September 2018

  • 73 Faculty Members

  • $5.3 million in external funding

  • Plus $3.1 million in support from student research scholarships, the research support fund and other support funds such as NSRIT.

  • Total $8.4 million
