Teens learn about conservation, research at Marine Mammal Camp

Another successful Marine Mammal Camp wrapped up earlier this month, with teens from across Canada attending this 10-day event.

The camp focuses on marine research and fieldwork, and is a fun introduction to the world of marine mammal conservation and research — a timely topic in our province.

Led by Dr. Brenna Frasier and Dr. Tim Frasier and presented by the Faculty of Science in cooperation with the Canadian Whale Institute, the students stay on the Saint Mary’s campus for half of the camp and travel to Campobello Island for the ocean research.

This camp is a great introduction to the study of biology for the teens, who each write an essay to secure their spot. Growing in popularity, it’s an excellent group of strong, motivated students who are chosen to attend.
