Dr. John G. Reid, professor of History and Atlantic Canada Studies at Saint Mary’s, is a member of Halifax's Task Force on the Commemoration of Edward Cornwallis and the Recognition and Commemoration of Indigenous History.

The group was a Special Advisory Committee when it was originally created last summer.

On Jan. 23, 2019, it was renamed and got a new governance structure to better reflect the equal partnership between HRM and the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq Chiefs.
