Mayor Mike Savage was on campus for a practise-run of Saint Mary’s Enactus team as they prepare to present to industry leaders at a global food conference next week.
Students Ciaro Moxey, Leslie Gates, and Sehmat Suri will pitch the Square Roots Token Program — a food-based social enterprise created by the Saint Mary’s Enactus team — to more than 1200 industry leaders at the Global Restaurant Leadership Conference in Dubai. They are one of two student teams presenting at the event that includes industry giants such as Subway and Coca-Cola.
Following the presentation Mayor Savage and other guests asked questions and provided feedback to help the students polish their pitch.
The Token Program sells physical and digital $5 tokens which can be redeemed for meals made from surplus food from 11 partner restaurants. Square Roots helps restaurant owners reduce waste, save on disposal costs, and adopt a new source of revenue, while making food more affordable and accessible.
The team hopes to develop new partnerships that will help them expand The Token Program worldwide.
